Behavior/Discipline Policy

At AGS we aim :

To establish a school that is happy, secure and stimulating; with classrooms where a calm and caring atmosphere ensures pleasant working conditions.

To ensure that everyone who works at or attends AGS feels part of our school community, where relationships can be formed and where every child, parent and visitor meets encouragement and a positive attitude.
To build individual high self-esteem and confidence.
To praise and encourage children so that they can develop emotionally, socially and academically.
To provide a consistent approach to discipline throughout the school.
To encourage everyone to have responsibility for their own actions.

Discipline Policy

It is the responsibility of parents to read, inform students and be aware of AGS’s discipline policy. Not knowing the rules and regulations specified in this policy will not be considered a valid excuse for violations. The purpose of the discipline policy is to ensure a safe, positive, learning environment at Awfaz Global School.

Consequences for Inappropriate and Unacceptable Behavior

Parents will be notified promptly by AGS staff when their child engages in inappropriate behavior. This will be done via telephone calls, disciplinary reports, or email. A verbal or written response to the incident will be required from the parent. Disciplinary actions may include loss of privileges, detention, in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, or expulsion. This will be done at the discretion of the Principal after consultation with the teacher, student and with the approval of CEO and school BOT.

The above infractions will result in the following steps:


Occurrence Consequence
1 Teacher Intervention (verbal warning, loss of playtime, corrective assignment etc. according to the teacher’s behavioural policy).
2 Contact Parent by telephone or via email. Student may be put on ‘Behaviour   Record’ for one week – recording behavior in every lesson. A letter regarding this will be sent to parents.
3 *Detention
4 **In School Suspension.
5 At Home Suspension
6 Expulsion from School.


Immediate Suspension

  1. Threatening a staff member or another child
  2. Obscenity
  3. Fighting
  4. Bribery
  5. Theft

Immediate Expulsion

  1. Religious Disrespect
  2. Vandalism
  3. Assault
  4. Arson
  5. Bomb Threat
  6. Possession of Illegal Substance
  7. Possession of Firearms, Weapons, or Dangerous Instruments

NB: any serious incidents regarding student behavior are recorded in a behavior report and filed by admin as evidence of any ongoing behavioural issues.

Infractions Explained

  1. Tardiness: Students are expected to be in the classroom at the beginning of each class. Disciplinary action will be taken toward students who are in repeatedly late to the morning assembly which begins promptly at 7:00.
  2. Breaking Classroom Rules: This includes any behavior that is not in line with the classroom rules and all disruptive behavior during class time, play time and transitional times.
  3. Unsafe Behavior: Includes but is not limited to running, throwing objects and not walking up and down the stairs properly.
  4. Not wearing the school uniform: Appropriate school uniforms must be worn every school day with the exception of the student’s P.E. day.
  5. Inappropriate Devices: The use of any wireless communication device, including but not limited to, mobile phones, paging devices, two-way radios, mp3 players, and gaming devices.
  6. Bullying: Persistent verbal or written statements that prevent an orderly and peaceful learning environment such as inappropriate language including remarks that demean a person’s religion, ethnicity, disability, or intellectual ability.
  7. Harassment: Engaging in behavior, which is immoral, indecent or overly affectionate. Students are not allowed to touch other students inappropriately or use suggestive comments.
  8. Academic Dishonesty: Engaging in or attempting to engage in cheating, plagiarism or falsification is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to giving or receiving any unauthorized assistance on academic work, copying from another child or impersonating a student or staff member.
  9. Vandalism: This includes breaking, or damaging of peer and school property.
  10. Threats: Using words or actions directed toward another person with the intention of causing harm to that person either emotionally or physically.
  11. Trespassing: Entering designated school areas of the AGS facility without the knowledge and consent of the officials of AGS. Students who loiter in and or around the building after commencement of the school day.
  12. Obscenity: Students are prohibited from viewing/ drawing obscene pictures and going on obscene websites.
  13. Fighting: Physical acts of harm against another individual.
  14. Self-Defense A student who is attacked may use reasonable force as an act of self-defense. A student who exceeds reasonable force will be disciplined for fighting even if someone else provoked the fight.
  15. Bribery or Extortion: Attempting to bribe or extort money, personal property, or personal services from another student or staff member.
  16. Fire alarms: Setting off or attempting to set off a false fire alarm.
  17. Theft: Any form of planned theft or stealing will result in suspension.
  18. Religious/ Cultural Disrespect: Intentional comments or actions made towards a persons religious beliefs.
  19. Vandalism: Intentionally damaging or attempting to damage or deface school or private property of individuals while under school jurisdiction.
  20. Assault: Inflicting or attempting to cause physical harm to another person or intentionally behaving in a manner that could result in physical injury to another person.
  21. Arson: The use and/or possession of any material likely to result in a fire on AGS property.
  22. Possession and/or Sale of Illegal Substance: The school has a no tolerance policy for possession and sale of drugs or other illegal substances
  23. Possession of Weapons and Dangerous Instruments: No student shall possess, handle, or transmit any weapon, sharp object or firearm.


The code does not include every offense that may take place in a school environment. The above infractions and violations serve as a guide but the school administrator has the authority to impose a lesser or more severe punishment at his/her discretion.


It is after school detention for about 45 minutes from 1:30 pm till 2:15 pm. Students can do the following:

  • Stay with the school counselor to do their missing work or doing extra school work.
  • Can watch a video about how to choose the right things.
  • Corrective assignment (assay, research paper, drawing, explain a verse or Hadeeth about the behavior etc.)
  • Lecture the student or give advice about what they did so they can correct their mistake.

**In School Suspension

The student will stay in a choosing area with a desk and a chair. The student can do the following:

  • Same as his classmates but individually. If they are doing Maths in the class room he/she will do Maths individually.
  • Do something good for the school (Social service), organizing books in the library, copy some materials to a teacher, helping PE, Art teacher in their classes etc.
